With Online Account Access, and transactions being done over the
Internet, comes questions about Online Security. Through Cryptographic
Technology, information is protected as it is transmitted across
the Internet. This technology is a form of scrambling the data
as it is sent. Mountain Credit Union uses Verisign 128-bit
encryption, the highest form of encryption, reserved primarily
for financial institutions. As an example, to break the coding
on 128-bit encryption, it would take a hacker 10,700,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
years provided he could harness the power of 1000 CPU's, and type
1000 characters per second, 24 hours a day. Other security tools
available to ensure the integrity of your data are: firewalls
and filtering routers that are used to secure computers from Internet
access, and a secure operating system have been implemented to
protect your information from external as well as internal threats.
For added security, members are required to determine their own
Personal Identification Number (PIN), and PIN guessing is deterred
since the user will be locked out after three unsuccessful attempts.
In addition if you do not access you account within a 90 day period,
your account will be disabled and you will need to reapply for a
PIN by contacting your branch office. These are just some of the
full range of security tools we use. These layers of security work
together to make sure that all information transmitted between you
and the CU is secure.
To take advantage of this convenient service, contact your branch office.
